New Delhi, 29th August. Former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and BJP leader Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh faced a major setback on Thursday as the Delhi High Court declined to immediately hear his petition related to the allegations made by female wrestlers. The court questioned why Singh had filed a single petition challenging both the order to frame charges against him and the subsequent proceedings.
Singh had approached the Delhi High Court on Wednesday, seeking to quash the FIR and allegations of sexual harassment filed against him by female wrestlers.
According to a report by Bar and Bench, Justice Neena Bansal Krishna, during the hearing, asked Singh why he had combined his challenge to the order framing charges with the challenge to the proceedings in a single petition. The judge remarked, “There cannot be a blanket order for everything. If you wanted to challenge the order on charges, you could have come separately. Once the trial has commenced, this is an indirect way.”
The Delhi High Court granted time to file notes on the arguments related to the quashing of the FIR and charges in the sexual harassment case. The next hearing is scheduled for September 26.
