New Delhi: The BJP government in Delhi plans to introduce a law for the protection and welfare of stray cows in the city, Minister Ashish Sood announced in the Delhi Assembly. The move aims to ensure better coordination between government departments while studying relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
“We will introduce a law for the protection and security of cows after thorough discussions. There should be no confusion between different government departments,” Sood stated during a discussion on the issue of stray cattle and animals.
Action Against Illegal Dairies in Keshavpuram
The issue gained attention after Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s convoy was reportedly obstructed by stray cattle. Following the incident, action will be taken against illegal dairies in Keshavpuram.
Keshavpuram Zone Chairman and Councillor Yogesh Verma confirmed that strict action would be taken against unauthorized dairies. When asked about bulldozers being used for the crackdown, he stated, “If the dairies are illegal, tough action will be taken. They will be sealed, electricity lines will be disconnected, and illegal constructions will be demolished. Police cases will also be filed.”
Rising Stray Cattle Issue in Delhi
It is illegal to keep cows in personal dairies in Delhi. Sources revealed that the government had set up a dairy in Bhalswa for cattle owners to house their livestock. However, the rise of unauthorized dairies in the area has worsened the stray cattle problem.
