Delhi BJP Protests Rising Cost of Electricity

New Delhi, 14th July. Delhi BJP leaders and workers, led by party MP Ramesh Bidhuri, protested near Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence over an increase in the city’s power bills on Thursday.

When demonstrators attempted to pass over barricades placed to prevent them from reaching the chief minister’s residence, police used water cannons to scatter them.

“The Kejriwal government has looted crores of rupees from Delhi people over many years through various charges and surcharges,” Bidhuri claimed, addressing the protesters.

The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission allowed power distribution companies (discoms) to increase power purchase adjustment costs by 2% in June. The increase will be reflected in consumers’ power bills in the next billing cycle.
