New Delhi, 24th Oct. Union Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated India’s men’s cricket team on their victory over Pakistan in the first match of the T20 World Cup on Sunday (October 23).
Congratulating the men in blue on their thrilling victory over Pakistan, Shah said that Diwali had begun. In addition, the home minister praised Virat Kohli for his “cracking innings” against Pakistan.
“A perfect way to start the T20 World Cup…Deepawali begins. What a cracking innings by Virat Kohli,” the Union HM tweeted.

India won the first match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 by four wickets at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia on Diwali, the festival of lights. Shah’s special praise for Kohli came after he led India to victory over Pakistan, playing the best innings for the team and providing millions of Indian cricket fans with a victory on Diwali eve, also known as ‘Choti Diwali.’
India’s victory over its arch-rival in cricket could not have come at a better time, as the country is in the midst of a festive season, celebrating ‘Choti Diwali.’ Kohli’s best knockout in the game was the icing on the cake for the former captain’s millions of fans. Diwali, the festival of lights, is being celebrated in India on October 24.
