Death Toll Rises to 17 in Hathras Bus Accident; Two Children Succumb to Injuries

Hathras, 7th Sept. The death toll from the tragic bus accident in Hathras has risen to 17, after the deaths of two more children, Appi (2) and Gulshan, who succumbed to their injuries at a hospital in Aligarh, officials reported on Saturday.

The accident occurred on Friday when a roadways bus collided with a van on National Highway 93 in Hathras district, Uttar Pradesh. The bus, attempting to overtake the van on the Agra-Aligarh national highway, hit the vehicle from behind near Kanwarpur village, approximately 10 kilometers from the district headquarters. The passengers were en route to Agra from Hathras.

The deceased have been identified as Irshad (25), Munne Khan (55), Muskan (16), Talli (28), Tabassum (28), Najma (25), Bhola (25), Khushbu (25), Jameel (50), Chote (25), Ayan (2), Sufiyan (1), Alfaz (6), Shoaib (5), and Ishrat (50).

District Magistrate Ashish Kumar reported that 16 individuals—11 in Hathras and 5 in Aligarh—are currently receiving treatment. The accident victims were returning from a mourning ritual in Sasni area of Hathras district.

In response to the tragedy, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to provide relief measures and announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh each for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each for those seriously injured.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences and announced financial assistance for the victims’ families and the injured.

President Droupadi Murmu also conveyed her grief and extended her condolences to the affected families, while wishing a speedy recovery to those injured.
