New Delhi, 4th Jan. Congress leader and former Member of Parliament, Danish Ali, on Saturday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of undermining democracy by fielding former MP Ramesh Bidhuri as a candidate from the Kalkaji segment in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections. Ali’s accusation stems from an incident in Parliament where Bidhuri used objectionable language against him, sparking a major row.
The controversy erupted during the last Lok Sabha session when Bidhuri made derogatory comments targeting Ali, who had been accused by BJP leaders of using offensive words against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, provoking Bidhuri’s remarks. While Bidhuri expressed regret for his comments before the Lok Sabha Privileges Committee, Ali, who was then a member of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), later switched to the Congress after being suspended from his previous party.
Ali condemned the BJP’s decision, stating, “Shameful. By making Ramesh Bidhuri a candidate from Kalkaji Assembly seat, the BJP has again proved that it has nothing to do with the dignity of Parliament and democratic etiquette.” He further criticized the move as a reward for Bidhuri’s disrespectful conduct in the “temple of democracy,” claiming it tarnishes the entire democratic process.
In a separate post, Ali expressed his concern that the “politics of hate” is unlikely to stop, alleging that the BJP’s promotion of figures like Bidhuri signals their continued commitment to divisive and hateful politics. “Giving an Assembly election ticket to a hateful person like Ramesh Bidhuri from Kalkaji by BJP is a clear declaration that the politics of hate is not going to stop anytime soon,” Ali remarked, stressing that when top BJP leaders are associated with hate-driven politics, they are likely to encourage the rise of new hateful leaders.
