Mumbai, 4th September. Cyrus Mistry, the former Chairman of Tata Sons, was killed in a car accident in Palghar on Sunday. Mistry was driving a Mercedes from Ahmedabad to Mumbai. Mistry was 54 years old.

“The accident took place around 3.15 pm, when Mistry was travelling to Mumbai from Ahmedabad. The accident took place on a bridge over the Surya river. It seems an accident,” news agency PTI quoted a police official as saying.

“Four people were in the car; two died on the spot and two were taken to hospital,” Palghar police officials told news agency ANI.

Cyrus took over as chairman of Tata Sons in 2012, succeeding Ratan Tata. However, four years later, he was ousted from power in a boardroom coup led by Tata Trusts, which owned 66% of Tata Sons and was controlled by Ratan Tata.

Allegations of mismanagement and suppression of minority shareholder rights escalated the conflict. The court decision in Tata’s favor in 2021 burned bridges between the two families, who had been partners for 70 years.

After leaving Tata, Cyrus founded Mistry Ventures LLP, a venture capital firm.

Aloo, Cyrus Mistry’s daughter, is married to Noel Tata, Ratan Tata’s stepbrother.
