Gandhinagar, 31st August. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday issued a warning regarding Cyclone “Asna,” a deep depression over the Arabian Sea, which has been causing heavy rains in Gujarat. The cyclone is expected to move West-Northwest over the Northeast Arabian Sea and away from the Indian coast within the next 24 hours.

According to the IMD, the deep depression is currently moving at a speed of 14 km per hour. It is located at a latitude of 23.6°N and a longitude of 66.4°E, approximately 250 km west of Naliya in Gujarat, 160 km south-southwest of Karachi in Pakistan, and 350 km east-southeast of Pasni in Pakistan.

On Friday, IMD scientist Ramashray Yadav noted that Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar are likely to experience light to moderate rains. The Kachchh region has already witnessed heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours, with Gujarat receiving a total of 882 mm of rainfall since June 1, surpassing normal levels by 50%.

“Kachchh has received very heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours. Gujarat has recorded 882 mm of rainfall since June 1, which is 50% more than normal. The Saurashtra and Kachchh regions have also recorded above-normal rainfall. Light to moderate rains are expected in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar today,” Yadav stated.

Earlier on Thursday, the IMD had issued a heavy rainfall warning for the districts of Jamnagar, Porbandar, Morbi, Dwarka, and Kutch.

In the wake of persistent heavy rains and subsequent flooding, the road connecting Padana Patiya to Changa Patiya in Jamnagar has been closed for traffic. Additionally, a section of a small bridge on Sir PN Road has been washed away, disrupting the movement of commuters.
