CPI(M) Leader, Accomplice Arrested for Conspiracy to Attack Protesting Doctors

Kolkata, 14th Sept. CPI(M) leader Kalatan Dasgupta was arrested along with another individual, Sanjiv Das, on Saturday for allegedly conspiring to attack protesting junior doctors, according to police reports.

The arrests followed the release of an audio clip by TMC leader Kunal Ghosh, which purportedly revealed a plot to attack the junior doctors demonstrating outside the Swasthya Bhawan in Salt Lake. Ghosh alleged that the conspiracy aimed to defame the Mamata Banerjee government.

Police initiated a suo motu case after the audio clip surfaced on Friday. Sanjiv Das was arrested from Haltu in south Kolkata on Friday night, while Dasgupta was apprehended at the protest site outside Swasthya Bhawan in Sector 5.

The junior doctors have been protesting outside the Swasthya Bhawan, the state Health Department’s headquarters, since Tuesday. Their demands include enhanced security at state-run hospitals and the removal of top officials following the recent rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar MCH.
