Port of Spain, 5th July: Prime Minister Narendra Modi appreciated a vibrant Bhojpuri Chautaal performance during his visit to Port of Spain, highlighting the strong cultural bonds between India and Trinidad & Tobago.
Sharing his sentiments on social media platform X, the Prime Minister posted:
“A cultural connect like no other! Very happy to have witnessed a Bhojpuri Chautaal performance in Port of Spain. The connect between Trinidad & Tobago and India, especially parts of eastern UP and Bihar, is noteworthy.”
The traditional Chautaal, rooted in the folk heritage of eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, resonated deeply with the Indo-Trinidadian community, many of whom trace their ancestry back to these Indian states.
Officials noted that the performance was a symbolic celebration of the 180-year-old connection between the two nations, particularly through the Indian diaspora that settled in Trinidad and Tobago during the 19th century.
The event is part of the broader cultural exchange agenda during PM Modi’s historic visit — the first bilateral visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the Caribbean nation in 26 years.
