New Delhi, 13th Sept. The Congress party on Friday urged the Supreme Court to take control of the Adani investigation and called for a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) to probe the full extent of the alleged “scam.”
The demand follows reports that Swiss authorities have frozen $311 million (₹2,610 crore) belonging to a suspected Adani proxy, Chang Chung-Ling, following an investigation by the Swiss Money Laundering Reporting Office (MROS).
Congress spokesperson Jairam Ramesh cited news reports revealing the Swiss Public Prosecutor’s Office had frozen five accounts connected to Chang, a longtime associate of Adani, as part of a money laundering and forgery investigation dating back to 2021.
US-based short-seller Hindenburg Research, which previously published a critical report on Adani, posted on X that Swiss investigators had frozen the funds linked to Chang, highlighting market manipulation and the opaque nature of investments.
Ramesh linked Chang’s financial activities to the Adani Group, accusing him of over-invoicing coal imports and syphoning ₹12,000 crore from India between 2021 and 2023. He also cited Adani Power’s price hikes in Gujarat during this period.
The Adani Group has denied any involvement in the Swiss investigation, calling the allegations baseless. However, Congress continues to press for further investigation, highlighting Chang’s history with Adani Group firms and links to multiple financial scandals.
Congress urged the Supreme Court to oversee the Adani case and pressed for the immediate formation of a JPC to investigate the full scale of what it described as the “Adani Mega scam.”
