Bengaluru, 2nd Dec. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar announced on Sunday that the Congress will host a convention in Hassan on December 5 aimed at protecting the Constitution. Speaking to reporters after a preparatory meeting at the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) office, Shivakumar, who also serves as the state Congress president, shared that the event has garnered support from various organizations and communities.
“The AICC has directed us to organize a program focused on the protection of the Constitution and national developments,” Shivakumar said. “We held a preparatory meeting with leaders and office bearers from four districts, and all party leaders will be invited to the convention.”
The Deputy CM also emphasized that the event aims to raise awareness against propaganda being spread about the state government. He added that the Congress will invite all those who advocate for the Constitution’s protection.
Additionally, Shivakumar announced that the Congress would hold events in Sandur, Shiggavi, and Channapatna to express gratitude to the public for supporting party candidates in the recent assembly by-elections.
Responding to a question about the upcoming Zilla Panchayat and Taluk Panchayat elections, Shivakumar stated, “The elections will be held soon. We have discussed this in the Cabinet meeting, and preparations are underway for February next year.”
On the possibility of holding similar conventions across the state, he revealed, “After the Hassan convention, we have a large program planned in Belagavi. Further details will be shared after a meeting tomorrow.”
Regarding Cabinet expansion, Shivakumar clarified, “I am only the KPCC president and Deputy CM, not the CM. There is no discussion on this right now, and there is no need for one. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has already addressed this question.”
