Congress Suspends Meghalaya MLAs Over Alleged Ties with Ruling NPP

GG News Bureau
Shillong, 17th August. The opposition Congress party in Meghalaya has suspended two of its MLAs, Gabriel Wahlang and Charles Marngar, following allegations that they were engaging with the ruling National People’s Party (NPP).

The suspension comes amidst accusations of “anti-party activities” against the MLAs.

State Congress General Secretary Wansuk Syiem announced the decision, citing reports from the block committee and frontal organization which indicated that Wahlang and Marngar were involved with the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government, which is led by the NPP.

According to Syiem, the actions of the suspended MLAs were found to be in direct conflict with the Congress party’s ideologies and principles, leading to the disciplinary action.

The party had conducted an internal investigation into the allegations against three MLAs, revealing that Wahlang and Marngar had been “hobnobbing” with the ruling NPP over the past few months.

An investigation into MLA Celestine Lyngdoh is still ongoing.

The suspended MLAs could not be reached for immediate comment.
