New Delhi, 22nd Nov. Amid ongoing tensions in Manipur, BJP national president JP Nadda on Friday accused Congress of “sensationalising the situation” in the state. Nadda’s remarks came in a letter addressed to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, following Kharge’s appeal to President Droupadi Murmu for intervention in the deteriorating situation.
Manipur has been grappling with renewed violence since ethnic clashes erupted in May 2023 between the Meitei and Kuki communities. The state witnessed fresh clashes last week, leaving 16 people dead, adding to the toll of over 300 lives lost since the conflict began.
In his letter, Kharge expressed concerns over the state’s worsening conditions, highlighting the displacement of people, economic disruptions, and the alleged inaction of the state and Union governments.
Responding sharply, Nadda blamed the Congress for India’s past security lapses, particularly in relation to illegal migration and agreements with foreign militants.
Citing past decisions under Congress leadership, Nadda argued that the party’s actions were a root cause of instability in the region. He emphasized that the BJP-led Centre would not allow a nexus of foreign forces to destabilize Manipur and roll back the peace achieved in recent years.
The political blame game adds to the complexities of resolving the escalating crisis in Manipur, which remains a focal point of concern for national and regional stakeholders.
