Kolkata, 30th July. Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal held a key meeting with senior party leaders from West Bengal on Monday to address various issues, including the party’s relationship with the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the state.
The meeting, held at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters, was attended by key figures such as Congress’ West Bengal unit chief Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, general secretary AICC in-charge West Bengal Ghulam Ahmad Mir, and Pradip Bhattacharya, among others.
Venugopal shared a video clip from the meeting on X, stating, “Held an important meeting with Congress leaders from West Bengal at AICC HQ today.” The discussion reportedly focused on balancing the party’s ties with the TMC both nationally and at the state level.
The Congress leadership is grappling with differing views on the coordination between the Congress and the TMC. This divergence was highlighted over the weekend when Congress expressed solidarity with TMC chief Mamata Banerjee regarding issues discussed at the NITI Aayog meeting. Simultaneously, Chowdhury wrote to President Droupadi Murmu, alleging an “anarchic condition” in West Bengal and seeking her intervention to “restore law and order.”
The Congress leadership is also seeking feedback on necessary adjustments within the state organization to address these challenges effectively.
