Jammu, 21st August. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi are set to embark on a two-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, starting Wednesday. The visit is a strategic move ahead of the upcoming assembly elections in the region.
Initially, the leaders were scheduled to begin their trip in Jammu before traveling to Srinagar. However, according to AICC General Secretary Gulam Ahmed Mir, they will now start their visit from Srinagar.
Mir, who is currently stationed in Srinagar, informed PTI that Kharge and Gandhi will conduct extensive meetings with party leaders and workers in ten districts of the Kashmir valley on Thursday. Following their interactions in Srinagar, they will travel to Jammu in the afternoon to continue discussions with party cadres across ten districts of the region. The leaders will then return to Delhi after the visit.
Mir emphasized that the visit aims to gather comprehensive feedback on grassroots-level preparations for the elections.
This visit follows a recent meeting where Kharge and Gandhi, along with general secretaries, in-charges, and screening committee members, reviewed strategies for the upcoming elections in four poll-bound states.
The elections to the 90-member Jammu and Kashmir assembly are scheduled to take place in three phases: September 18, September 25, and October 1.
