Maharashtra, 5th May. Vijay Namdevrao Wadettiwar, the leader of the Maharashtra opposition, entered the fray when he claimed that Hemant Karkare, the former head of the state anti-terrorism squad (ATS), was slain in the 26/11 Mumbai terror assault by an RSS-affiliated police officer rather than by terrorist Ajmal Kasab.
Referencing Hemant Karkare, Congressman Vijay Wadettiwar criticized Ujjwal Nikam, the BJP candidate from Mumbai North Central. In the trial following the 26/11 terror attack, where Ajmal Kasab received a death sentence, Nikam served as the public prosecutor.
“Nikam brought up the subject of biryani, defaming Congress. Who will feed Kasab the biryani? Subsequently, Ujjwal Nikam acknowledged it. As a traitor who skipped court testimony, what sort of lawyer is he? The bullet that murdered Mumbai Police officer Hemant Karkare was shot by a police officer who was then loyal to the RSS, not by Kasab. “The question that needs to be answered is why the BJP is endorsing these traitors if it is providing a ticket to someone who concealed this truth from the judiciary,” Wadettiwar stated.
Vinod Tawde, the national general secretary of the BJP, responded to Wadettiwar’s remarks by saying, “Congress can stoop to any level to please and get its special vote bank.” This was demonstrated by LoP and senior Maharashtra Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar, who gave the terrorists of 9/11 a clean sheet. He claims that Kasab did not fire at Hemant Karkare ji, the martyr. Did Congress not feel the slightest bit guilty about arming terrorists? The entire nation has now learned the purpose of the prayers being said throughout Pakistan for the Congress and the prince’s triumph.”
Wadettiwar subsequently provided clarification, stating that the sentence he had made was a quote from an SM Mushrif book.
“I did not say those things. I simply stated what was written in the book by SM Mushrif. The book contained all the necessary information. He declared, “It was not a terrorist’s bullet that shot Hemant Karkare.
Wadettiwar was alluding to the 2009 book “Who Killed Karkare” by SM Mushrif. Hasan Mushrif, a Nationalist Congress Party leader and Maharashtra minister, is the brother of SM Mushrif, a former Inspector General of Police.
“The bullets fired by terrorists did not kill Hemant Karkare. This is recorded in the police officer SM Mushrif’s book. Why didn’t Ujjwal Nikam highlight this earlier? According to police officer SM Mushrif’s book, Hemant Karkare was shot and killed, but the bullet did not come from an extremist or terrorist. Ajmal Kasab’s hanging is not a huge event; any regular attorney or bailout attorney could have carried out this action,” he declared.
The highest bravery medal in India, the Ashok Chakra, was given posthumously to Hemant Karkare, who was killed in action during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack.
When the terrorist Kasab was discovered alive during the 26/11 Mumbai attack, Ujjwal Nikam battled the case on behalf of the government until Kasab was executed. Varsha Gaikwad of the Congress is Nikam’s opponent for the Mumbai North Central Lok Sabha constituency.
