Congress Leader Claims “People Will Storm PM’s Residence Like in Bangladesh,” Sparking Controversy

Bhopal, 8th August.
Senior Madhya Pradesh Congress leader Sajjan Singh Verma has stirred controversy with his comments suggesting that, similar to the unrest in Bangladesh, people in India might one day storm the Prime Minister’s residence due to alleged policy failures. His remarks have led the BJP’s youth wing to demand that legal action be taken against him.

During a Congress protest in Indore on Tuesday, Verma drew parallels between the civil unrest in Bangladesh and recent events in Sri Lanka, suggesting that similar disturbances could occur in India. “Remember Narendra Modi ji, one day people will enter the Prime Minister’s residence because of your wrong policies, and will occupy it,” Verma stated. He cited recent incidents in Sri Lanka and Bangladesh as examples, adding that India might be next.

Verma’s remarks were made during a protest against alleged scams in the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC). The comments have been met with strong backlash from the BJYM, whose Indore city president, Saugat Mishra, along with other activists, submitted a formal complaint to officials at the MG Road police station on Wednesday. The BJYM has called for a case to be registered against Verma, accusing him of using “anti-national” language and insulting the sentiments of Indian citizens.

Mishra criticized Verma for drawing comparisons between the violence in Bangladesh and the situation in India, and accused him of making statements intended to generate media attention.

Additional DCP (Zone-3) Ramsanehi Mishra confirmed receipt of the BJYM’s complaint and stated that the matter would be reviewed. He noted that video footage of Verma’s statement would be examined and legal advice sought before deciding on further action.
