Congress Hits Back at BJP Over Anurag Thakur’s Caste Comments

GG News Bureau
New Delhi, 31st July. In a sharp rebuttal to BJP MP Anurag Thakur’s recent comments questioning Rahul Gandhi’s caste, the Congress has strongly defended the Gandhi family’s legacy and reiterated its demand for a nationwide caste census.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge slammed the BJP and RSS for allegedly undermining the significance of caste identity and called for a comprehensive caste census.

He stated, “Yes, I am an Indian and a Dalit, but I don’t know how many we are. Yes, I am a tribal, but I don’t know how many we are. Yes, I am an OBC, but I don’t know how many we are. Today, we all need to assess how much our participation is in the progress of this country.”

Kharge accused the BJP-RSS of conspiring to suppress the rights of marginalized communities and maintaining social inequalities. He asserted that the Modi government is obstructing the caste census, which he views as essential for ensuring social, economic, and political empowerment.

In a passionate address, Kharge declared, “‘Ginti Karo’ (get a counting done) is our resolution. The Indian National Congress is ready to listen to any casteist abuse, but we are determined to carry out the caste census!”

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also condemned Thakur’s remarks, emphasizing the widespread public support for a caste census.

She questioned, “Will 80 per cent of India’s population be abused in Parliament now?” and demanded clarity from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on whether the remarks were made with his approval.

Congress media head Pawan Khera labeled Thakur’s comments as a reflection of the BJP’s true nature and defended Rahul Gandhi’s family, calling them “martyrs.” Khera asserted that the Congress does not seek an apology from the BJP but remains steadfast in its pursuit of a caste census, emphasizing that “justice will be done.”
