New Delhi, 11th March.
In the wake of recent political upheaval within the Congress party in Himachal Pradesh, the grand old party has formed a six-member coordination committee to enhance collaboration between the government and the organization in the state.

The coordination committee, as per an official release, comprises key leaders including Himachal Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, state party president Pratibha Singh, Deputy CM Mukesh Agnihotri, along with Congress stalwarts Kaul Singh Thakur, Dhaniram Shandil, and Ram Lal Thakur.

An official statement said, “Congress President has approved the proposal to constitute a coordination committee for better coordination between the government and the Organization in Himachal Pradesh, with immediate effect.”

The formation of this committee follows a tumultuous period for the Congress party, marked by the defection of 11 MLAs to BJP-ruled Uttarakhand amid internal discord. The exodus of MLAs, including six rebel Congress members and three independent legislators, underscored the challenges faced by the Congress-led government in Himachal Pradesh.

Chief Minister Sukhu expressed concerns over the developments, citing alleged attempts at horse-trading and emphasizing the importance of upholding democratic principles. “Some MLAs are sad. They have been kept under CRPF security. Is this how democracy will remain strong? Horsetrading weakens the democracy,” remarked Sukhu.

The political turmoil intensified following the disqualification of six Congress MLAs by the Himachal assembly speaker for their involvement in cross-voting during last month’s Rajya Sabha polls. The disqualified MLAs, along with their independent counterparts, had voted against the party candidate, triggering a crisis within the Congress ranks.

The formation of the coordination committee aims to mitigate internal discord and streamline communication between the government and the party apparatus.
