Congress Dismisses Prashant Kishor’s Criticism and Advice, Calls Them “Consultants’ Remarks”

New Delhi, 9th April.
The Congress party has shrugged off the recent round of criticism and advice from poll strategist Prashant Kishor, asserting that remarks from “consultants” do not warrant a response.

Kishor, in a comprehensive interview with the Press Trust of India, had issued a checklist for the party and its senior leader Rahul Gandhi, including the suggestion that Gandhi step aside if the party fails to perform well in the upcoming elections.

When questioned about Kishor’s comments, Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate dismissed them, stating, “I do not answer on remarks by consultants. Talk about political people, what is there to answer on consultants?”

In his interaction with PTI, Kishor emphasized that Rahul Gandhi has effectively been leading the party for a decade without significant success, suggesting that a break might be beneficial. He drew parallels with Sonia Gandhi’s decision to delegate party matters to PV Narasimha Rao in 1991 after the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi.

Kishor, known for his critical stance toward the Congress, labeled Gandhi’s prolonged leadership as “anti-democratic.” Despite crafting successful campaigns for the party in the past, such as in Punjab in 2017, Kishor parted ways due to disagreements over strategy execution.

Following a decade of decline in the Congress’s electoral fortunes, Kishor cautioned against misinterpreting regional victories, like in Karnataka, as indicators of success in national elections. His consultancy career formally concluded after the 2021 Bengal assembly election, where his client Mamata Banerjee achieved significant gains.
