Hyderabad, 23rd Oct. After completing the Karnataka leg of the nationwide foot march, the Congress’ Bharat Jodo Yatra, led by party leader Rahul Gandhi, entered Telangana on Sunday.
Telangana Congress leaders greeted Gandhi warmly as the yatra entered the state at the Telangana-Karnataka border.
Manickam Tagore, Congress Lok Sabha member in charge of party affairs in Telangana, state Congress president A Revanth Reddy, and other party leaders greeted Gandhi. When the yatra marched into Telangana, hundreds of activists gathered at a bridge on the Krishna River near the border.
The Wayanad MP walked briefly in Telangana, stopping at Gudebellur in the state’s Narayanpet district. According to Congress sources, he flew to Hyderabad and will then fly to Delhi.
The yatra will be suspended for three days during Diwali, from Sunday noon to October 26, according to a press release issued by the Telangana PCC on Saturday.
The yatra will then resume on October 27 morning from Gudebellur. It will arrive in Makthal and travel 375 kilometers through Telangana, visiting 19 assembly and seven parliamentary constituencies before entering Maharashtra on November 7.
Every day, Gandhi will walk 20-25 kilometers as part of his ‘padayatra,’ interacting with people along the way.
He will meet intellectuals, community leaders, politicians, sports, business, and movie stars.
Gandhi will travel to Telangana to visit prayer halls, mosques, and temples. Interfaith prayers will also be offered, according to the TPCC.
The Bharat Jodo Yatra kicked off on September 7 in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu. Gandhi finished the marathon walk through Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka before embarking on the Telangana leg of the yatra.
