Coal Ministry’s GeM Procurement Exceeds Target, Reaches Rs 28,665 Crore

New Delhi, 19th Oct. An in-depth analysis of the Ministry of Coal and Coal India Limited’s (CIL) e-Procurement performance over the past three financial years reveals a positive trend on the Government e-Marketplace (GeM). GeM has consistently witnessed an increase in procurement from the fiscal year 2020-21 to 2023-24, highlighting the significant impact it has had on the public procurement ecosystem.

From FY 2020-21 to FY 2022-23, e-procurement through GeM has experienced continuous growth. In FY 2020-21, it facilitated a total e-procurement of 477 crore rupees, which has significantly risen to 28,665 crore rupees in the current fiscal year. The percentage of procurement through GeM out of the total procurement has also seen a substantial increase, from 0.49% in FY 2020-21 to 72% in FY 2023-24 (as of October 15, 2023).

As of October 15, 2023, the Ministry of Coal has surpassed its GeM procurement target for the current year, reaching 28,665 crore rupees out of the total procurement of 39,607 crore rupees.

The Ministry of Coal and CIL have emerged as leaders in e-procurement through GeM among all ministries and Public Sector Undertakings, setting a commendable benchmark in the public procurement ecosystem.
