Mysuru, 7th August. In a sharp rebuke, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah questioned veteran BJP leader B.S. Yediyurappa’s “moral right” to demand his resignation over the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) site allotment ‘scam’. On Wednesday, Siddaramaiah asked Yediyurappa to retire from public life, citing his involvement in a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act case.
Yediyurappa had recently demanded Siddaramaiah’s resignation ahead of the BJP-JD(S) protest march from Bengaluru to Mysuru, which aims to spotlight the alleged fraudulent MUDA site allotments, including one to Siddaramaiah’s wife, Parvathi.
“Yediyurappa has been accused in a POCSO case, and a chargesheet has been filed. He remains free due to the court’s mercy. In such cases, bail is not easily granted,” Siddaramaiah told reporters. He further questioned Yediyurappa’s moral standing: “At 81 years of age, he is accused of sexually assaulting a girl. He should retire from public life.”
The case against Yediyurappa was registered on March 14, following a complaint from the mother of a 17-year-old girl, who alleged that Yediyurappa assaulted her daughter during a meeting at his residence in Dollars Colony on February 2. The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) filed a chargesheet against Yediyurappa on June 27 at the Fast Track Court.
Siddaramaiah also indicated his intent to discuss Yediyurappa’s alleged involvement in 18-20 other cases during the Congress rally in Mysuru on August 9. “We are getting them investigated,” he asserted, vowing to address the allegations comprehensively.
This exchange intensifies the political tension as both parties prepare for the upcoming rally, with the MUDA site allotment ‘scam’ and POCSO case taking center stage in Karnataka’s political discourse.
