Civil Defence Mock Drills Scheduled in 5 States Near Pakistan Border on May 29

New Delhi, 28th May: As tensions with Pakistan continue to simmer following India’s recent Operation Sindoor, several states along the western border are gearing up for civil defence mock drills on May 29 (Thursday). Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, and parts of Jammu and Kashmir will participate in these exercises designed to test emergency preparedness.

Haryana, in particular, is launching a state-wide exercise named Operation Shield, covering all 22 districts. The drills will run from 5 pm to 9 pm and will simulate various emergency situations like air raids and drone attacks, reflecting concerns over possible wartime scenarios.

The Ministry of Home Affairs is guiding these drills, ensuring that officials and citizens alike get a real sense of readiness in case of a crisis. Earlier this month, India conducted similar nationwide drills under Operation Abhyaas, marking the first large-scale civil defence exercise since the 1971 Indo-Pak war.

Those drills came just hours after India’s military struck terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir as part of Operation Sindoor, a response to the brutal terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22 that claimed 26 innocent lives.

The recent exercises weren’t limited to border states but spread across many parts of the country — from Delhi to Kerala, Maharashtra to Assam — covering a wide range of emergency situations like fire outbreaks and search-and-rescue operations.

With the situation along the border remaining sensitive, these drills aim to keep everyone alert and prepared, strengthening the country’s ability to respond swiftly and effectively in times of crisis.
