New Delhi, 11th March. In a strategic move aimed at expanding their business ventures into thermal and renewable power generation, Coal India Limited (CIL) has forged a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RRVUNL) for the exploration and execution of power projects with a combined capacity of 4,100 MW.
The envisioned electricity generation will encompass a blend of coal-fired thermal power plants, solar projects, pump storage plants, and wind projects. With Rajasthan actively seeking avenues to secure power to meet its burgeoning energy requirements, the entirety of the generated power will be acquired by the state.
The signing ceremony, held today, witnessed the presence of Shri Bhajan Lal Sharma, Chief Minister of Rajasthan, while Shri Pralhad Joshi, Minister of Coal, Mines, and Parliamentary Affairs, along with Shri R K Singh, Minister for Power, New and Renewable Energy, attended virtually. Also in attendance was Shri Amrit Lal Meena, Secretary of Coal. Dr. A K Samantaray, Executive-Director (Corporate Affairs and Business Development) of CIL, and Shri Devendra Shringi, Chairman and Managing Director of RRVUNL, formally signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations.
The proposed projects include a 2×800 MW coal-based pit-head power plant to be established in a coal-rich state, with its power consumption earmarked for Rajasthan.
Additionally, plans entail a 2000 MW solar power project within RRVUNL’s solar park, a 200 MW (2×100) pump storage project at Jawahar Sagar, a 250 MW solar project on land designated for Banswara TPP by RRVUNL, and a 50 MW wind project at the existing Ramgarh gas project in Jaisalmer.
Under the terms of the MoU, RRVUNL is obligated to ensure off-take guarantees from the projects and facilitate the acquisition, possession, and transfer of developed land parcels to the Joint Venture Company (JVC). Meanwhile, CIL will conduct feasibility studies and financial viability analyses for each of the proposed ventures, as stipulated in the agreement.
