Mumbai, 21st Jan. British band Coldplay is currently in India as part of their Music of the Spheres world tour. During their Mumbai concert on January 19, the band’s frontman, Chris Martin, took a moment to express his gratitude to Indian audiences, thanking them for forgiving the colonial past of Great Britain.
In a video shared widely on social media, Chris Martin can be heard saying, “Thank you for forgiving us for all the bad things that Britain did.” The singer continued, “This is our fourth visit to India, and the second time we’re playing. The first time we performed a long show and we could not have asked for a better audience. Thank you for coming today, everybody!”
Chris went on to express how deeply moved the band was by the warm welcome they received, despite their British origins. He added, “It is amazing to us that you welcome us even though we are from Great Britain. Thank you for forgiving us for all of the bad things that Great Britain has done.”
Fans flooded the Instagram comments, praising the heartfelt gesture. One fan wrote, “Chris healing intergenerational trauma with a mic, stage, and some tunes,” while another said, “Chris fixing what he didn’t break.”
Coldplay still has three more concerts scheduled in India as part of their tour. The band will perform in Mumbai on January 21 and in Ahmedabad on January 25 and 26. The final show, on January 26, will be streamed live on Disney+ Hotstar.
