Cheating Allegations: Mumbai Court Orders Probe Into Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra’s ‘Satyug Gold’ Scheme’

Mumbai, 14th June.
Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty and her husband, businessman Raj Kundra, are facing allegations of cheating leveled by prominent bullion trader Prithviraj Saremal Kothari in Mumbai. The accusations have prompted the Mumbai Sessions Court to initiate a comprehensive investigation into the matter.

According to Mr. Kothari’s complaint, Shilpa Shetty, Raj Kundra, and their associates purportedly orchestrated a scheme under their company, promising high returns on investments in gold through their venture “Satyug Gold.” The scheme allegedly guaranteed investors fixed-rate gold deliveries, irrespective of market fluctuations.

Mr. Kothari, a key player in Mumbai’s gold and bullion market, claims he was persuaded by the accused to invest a significant sum in the scheme. Despite assurances from Shilpa Shetty, Raj Kundra, and their associates, Mr. Kothari asserts that he did not receive the promised gold upon the scheme’s maturity date of April 2, 2019, despite paying ₹90,38,600 upfront. Supporting documents submitted by Mr. Kothari, including a signed covering letter from Shilpa Shetty Kundra and an invoice from Satyug Gold Private Limited, substantiate his claims.

The scheme, promoted on the reputation of Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra in entertainment and business circles, allegedly misled investors into believing their investments were secure, only to allegedly defraud them in the end.

Responding to the complaint, the Mumbai Sessions Court has directed the Mumbai Police to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations. Earlier this year, Raj Kundra had faced scrutiny from the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a money laundering case related to a Ponzi scheme, resulting in the seizure of properties worth ₹97.79 crore, including a Mumbai flat registered under Shilpa Shetty’s name.
