New Delhi, 3rd August. The Centre has refused political clearance to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for his planned visit to Paris to support the Indian hockey team at the Olympic Games. An official source confirmed the decision on Saturday.
Mann, who holds a diplomatic passport, was scheduled to be in Paris from August 3 to 9 to attend the Indian hockey team’s quarterfinal match on August 4.
The Chief Minister’s Office was informed of the decision on Friday evening. Political clearance for senior political leaders traveling abroad must be obtained from the Ministry of External Affairs.
Despite the setback, Mann congratulated the Indian hockey team on their historic victory over Australia in the ongoing Paris Olympics. India secured a 3-2 win against Australia, a team they had not defeated since 1972. Skipper Harmanpreet Singh scored twice in the crucial match.
In a message celebrating the win, Mann expressed pride in the team’s achievement, noting, “It is a matter of great pride and satisfaction that India defeated Australia by 3-2. Harmanpreet Singh led the team to victory by scoring two goals in this important match.”
