Centre Forms Supreme Court-Mandated Task Force for Medical Professionals’ Safety

New Delhi, 22nd August. The Union Health Ministry on Wednesday issued an Office Memorandum announcing the formation of a National Task Force for the safety of medical professionals, following a directive from the Supreme Court on August 20.

The 14-member task force, chaired by the Cabinet Secretary of the Government of India, comprises both ex-officio members and leading experts from various medical institutions across the country.

The task force includes prominent figures such as the Home Secretary, the Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the Chairperson of the National Medical Commission, and the President of the National Board of Examinations. Other notable members are Dr. D Nageshwar Reddy, Chairman and Managing Director of the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology and AIG Hospitals, Hyderabad; Dr. M Srinivas, Director of AIIMS, Delhi; and Dr. Pratima Murthy, Director of NIMHANS, Bengaluru.

The panel also features Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, AVSM, VSM, Director General Medical Services (Navy), and several other distinguished medical professionals, including Dr. Saumitra Rawat from Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Dr. Goverdhan Dutt Puri from AIIMS Jodhpur, and Dr. Pallavi Saple from Grant Medical College, Mumbai.

This task force is to address the critical issue of medical professionals’ safety in India, ensuring a secure working environment in healthcare institutions nationwide.
