“Celebrating Excellence in Science and Technology,” says President Murmu at Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar 2024

New Delhi, 22nd August. In a prestigious ceremony held at Gantantra Mandap, Rashtrapati Bhavan, the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, presented the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar-2024 today (August 22, 2024). This marks the first edition of the awards, celebrating excellence in the field of science and technology.
A total of 33 awards were presented across four categories: Vigyan Ratna, Vigyan Shri, Vigyan Yuva, and Vigyan Team.
The highest honor, the Vigyan Ratna Award, was conferred upon Prof. Govindarajan Padmanabhan, a trailblazer in molecular biology and biotechnology research in India, for his lifetime contributions to science and technology.
Thirteen scientists received the Vigyan Shri Awards for their distinguished contributions in various scientific domains, while the Vigyan Yuva-SSB Award was presented to 18 young scientists. Their work ranged from studying the warming of the Indian Ocean and its implications to developing indigenous 5G base stations and conducting precision tests in quantum mechanics.
The Vigyan Team Award was bestowed upon the Chandrayaan-3 team for their groundbreaking achievement in successfully landing the Chandrayaan-3 lander near the south pole of the moon, further cementing India’s prowess in space exploration.
