New Delhi, 9th Sept. Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan unveiled a significant joint doctrine for amphibious operations on Monday during a meeting of the Chiefs of Staff Committee (COSC). This pivotal move in the national security domain comes as the government advances its ambitious theaterisation project, which aims to integrate and optimize military resources across the three services.
The new doctrine, revealed almost three months after the introduction of the joint doctrine for cyberspace operations, provides crucial guidance for military commanders in executing amphibious operations in contemporary military environments.
According to the defence ministry, this document will be instrumental in empowering the armed forces to conduct a range of operations in the Indian Ocean Region, both during peacetime and conflict.
“The joint doctrine for amphibious operations represents a key publication that underscores the importance of jointness and integration among the armed forces,” the ministry stated.
The doctrine is designed to enhance the cohesion and collaborative efforts of the Army, Navy, and Air Force.
The release of this doctrine aligns with the government’s broader initiative to boost synergy among the armed forces through the theaterisation model. This strategy involves integrating the capabilities of the Army, Navy, and Air Force into cohesive theatre commands that will manage security challenges in specific geographical regions. Each theatre command will operate as a unified entity, ensuring a more streamlined and effective approach to national security.
Currently, the Army, Navy, and Air Force operate with separate commands, but the theaterisation plan aims to merge their resources and capabilities to address security needs more efficiently. The move is expected to enhance operational readiness and strategic flexibility across the services.
