Kolkata, 8th March. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted visits to the residence and office of suspended Trinamool Congress leader Shajahan Sheikh in Sandeshkhali’s Sarberia on Thursday, following his recent custody acquisition. Upon finding both locations locked, the team took exterior photographs before departing.
Subsequently, the CBI team interacted with villagers at the Sheikh Shajahan market, operating under the protection of central forces. Shajahan Sheikh, along with associates Shiba Prasad Hajra, Uttam Sardar, and others, faces accusations of sexual abuse and land grabbing in Sandeshkhali.
Sheikh, who had been evading authorities for 55 days, was apprehended on February 29 from a residence in the Minakhan area, approximately 30 km away from Sandeshkhali. He was implicated in two cases related to an assault on Enforcement Directorate (ED) officers during a raid at his residence in a ration scam case.
Following unsuccessful attempts on March 5 to gain custody from the Bengal CID, the CBI successfully obtained custody on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, another CBI team visited Bongaon in the same district to photograph the residence of Shankar Addya, former chairman of the local municipality, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in January for alleged irregularities in ration supply distribution.
