New Delhi, 6th Sept. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has ruled out gangrape in the murder of a Kolkata doctor last month, with evidence indicating only one accused, Sanjay Roy, was involved in the crime at RG Kar Hospital, sources said.
The CBI, which took over the case from Kolkata Police on the High Court’s orders, is in the final stages of its investigation and will soon file charges.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, under pressure from political opponents and civil society, had questioned the delay in the investigation. The CBI has conducted over 100 interviews, polygraph tests, and medical examinations as part of the inquiry.
Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former hospital chief, has been arrested on charges of financial irregularities but is not implicated in the rape-murder. Protests and demonstrations over the case continue across the country, with allegations of police mishandling and opposition interference drawing significant attention.
The CBI is expected to file a status report with the High Court by September 17.
