Kolkata- The CBI’s latest chargesheet in the multi-crore school job scam in West Bengal has sparked political controversy by naming an ‘Abhishek Banerjee’ in connection with an alleged demand for ₹15 crore in illegal appointments. The identity of the individual remains unclarified, but the name matches that of TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee, who has faced previous probes.
The charge sheet, submitted on February 21, accuses Sujay Krishna Bhadra and others of collecting bribes for manipulating teacher recruitment under the 2014 TET selection process. Bhadra, identified as the COO of Leaps and Bounds Pvt Ltd—linked to Banerjee in past ED probes—allegedly facilitated payments to top political figures, including former education minister Partha Chatterjee.
Banerjee has strongly denied the allegations, calling the CBI’s move a “fishing expedition” without evidence. His lawyer emphasized that the ED, responsible for tracking illicit funds, has not filed any charge sheet against him. Banerjee accused central agencies of political targeting and vowed to fight the charges.
