C&AG Fosters Accountability and Transparency: LS Speaker Birla

New Delhi, 16th Nov. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla lauded the Comptroller & Auditor General of India (C&AG) for its pivotal role in ensuring accountability, transparency, and good governance. Addressing the 4th Audit Diwas celebrations in New Delhi, Birla highlighted C&AG’s evolving legacy of 161 years, marked by innovation and global recognition.

The Speaker emphasized the significance of financial discipline as the foundation of democracy, stating, “Strong fiscal discipline ensures robust governance, and C&AG’s work holds the executive accountable to the public.”

Birla acknowledged C&AG’s global leadership, particularly in hosting the ASOSAI General Assembly and its presidency for 2024-2027. He added, “Officials from over 50 countries visit India to understand our exemplary audit systems, a testament to their authenticity and credibility.”

Highlighting the use of technology, including AI, Birla noted that C&AG continues to adapt to emerging challenges, ensuring judicious utilization of public funds. He also praised the parliamentary tradition of appointing an opposition leader as Chair of the Public Accounts Committee, underscoring the impartiality of India’s audit system.

Birla called for continued focus on efficiency and transparency, urging the C&AG to guide institutions and departments toward better governance.
