New Delhi, 8th March. In a move towards advancing India’s position in the global AI landscape, the Cabinet has approved the ambitious IndiaAI Mission. With a budget outlay of Rs.10,371.92 crore, the mission aims to strengthen the AI innovation ecosystem, foster indigenous capabilities, and drive inclusive growth through responsible AI development and deployment.
Key Highlights:
- IndiaAI Compute Capacity: The mission will establish a public AI compute infrastructure with 10,000 or more GPUs through public-private partnerships. An AI marketplace will be created to offer AI as a service and pre-trained models, facilitating AI innovation.
- IndiaAI Innovation Centre: This pillar will focus on developing and deploying indigenous Large Multimodal Models (LMMs) and foundational models in critical sectors.
- IndiaAI Datasets Platform: A unified platform will be developed to streamline access to quality non-personal datasets for AI innovation, benefitting Indian startups and researchers.
- IndiaAI Application Development Initiative: This initiative aims to promote AI applications in critical sectors, addressing problem statements sourced from central ministries, state departments, and other institutions.
- IndiaAI FutureSkills: To mitigate barriers to AI education, this pillar will increase AI courses in undergraduate, masters-level, and Ph.D. programs. Data and AI Labs will be established in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.
- IndiaAI Startup Financing: Supporting deep-tech AI startups, this pillar will provide streamlined access to funding for futuristic AI projects.
- Safe & Trusted AI: Ensuring responsible AI development and deployment, this pillar will implement projects for the development of indigenous tools and frameworks, self-assessment checklists, and governance frameworks.
Significance:
The IndiaAI Mission is poised to drive innovation, build domestic capacities, and ensure India’s tech sovereignty. It will create skilled employment opportunities and demonstrate how AI can be harnessed for social good, enhancing India’s global competitiveness in the field of artificial intelligence.
