GG News Bureau
New Delhi, 28th August. In a landmark decision, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday approved 12 new projects under the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP), with a total investment of Rs. 28,602 crore.

This strategic move aims to revolutionize India’s industrial landscape by creating a network of world-class industrial smart cities, enhancing economic growth and global competitiveness.

The 12 industrial nodes will be developed across 10 states along 6 major corridors. The selected locations include Khurpia (Uttarakhand), Rajpura-Patiala (Punjab), Dighi (Maharashtra), Palakkad (Kerala), Agra and Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh), Gaya (Bihar), Zaheerabad (Telangana), Orvakal and Kopparthy (Andhra Pradesh), and Jodhpur-Pali (Rajasthan).

Key Highlights:

Strategic Investments: The NICDP will foster a dynamic industrial ecosystem, attracting investments from large industries and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). This initiative supports the goal of achieving $2 trillion in exports by 2030 and aligns with India’s vision of becoming a self-reliant, globally competitive nation.

Smart Cities and Modern Infrastructure: The new cities will be developed as greenfield smart cities with advanced infrastructure based on ‘plug-n-play’ and ‘walk-to-work’ concepts. This approach ensures that the cities are prepared to meet future demands with sustainable and efficient operations.

Alignment with PM GatiShakti: The projects will feature multi-modal connectivity infrastructure, as outlined in the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan, facilitating the smooth movement of people, goods, and services. These cities are envisioned as growth centers for regional transformation.

Vision for ‘Viksit Bharat’: The NICDP supports the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India) by positioning India as a strong player in the Global Value Chains (GVC). Developed land parcels will be readily available for investors, supporting the creation of a self-reliant India with enhanced industrial output and employment opportunities.

Economic Impact and Employment Generation: The projects are expected to create approximately 1 million direct jobs and up to 3 million indirect jobs, contributing significantly to socio-economic development in the regions.

Commitment to Sustainable Development: The NICDP projects will emphasize sustainability, incorporating green technologies and ICT-enabled utilities to minimize environmental impact and ensure quality, reliable infrastructure.

This approval marks a significant milestone in India’s journey towards becoming a global manufacturing powerhouse. With a focus on integrated development, sustainable infrastructure, and seamless connectivity, these new industrial nodes are set to redefine India’s industrial landscape and drive long-term economic growth.

In addition to these new projects, the NICDP has already completed four projects, with another four currently underway, showcasing the government’s commitment to transforming India’s industrial sector.
