Kolkata, 18th March. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed sadness on Monday following the collapse of a five-storey under-construction building in South Kolkata’s Metiabruz area.
She assured that rescue operations were underway and pledged compensation for the families of the deceased and injured.
In a statement posted on social media, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stated, “Sad to learn about the house collapse disaster of an under-construction building in the Garden Reach area of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation.”
According to West Bengal Fire and Emergency Services Minister Sujit Bose, 13 individuals have been rescued thus far, with more expected to be trapped under the debris. Urgent efforts are ongoing to extract those trapped and provide necessary medical assistance.
West Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, sharing updates on social media, highlighted that the collapsed building was allegedly illegally constructed in Hazari Mollah Bagan, Garden Reach, Metiabruz, falling under KMC Ward No. 134.
Adhikari urged authorities to involve the West Bengal State Disaster Management Team in the ongoing rescue operation and provide immediate assistance to the affected individuals.
