BJP Supporters Celebrate as Party Crosses Majority Mark; Silence at AAP Office

New Delhi, 8th Feb. As early trends indicate a decisive lead for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Delhi Assembly elections, celebrations have erupted outside the party headquarters. Supporters were seen dancing to the beats of dhol, waving party flags, and cheering as the BJP crossed the majority mark with over 40 seats. The counting of votes, which began at 8 a.m., continues across all 70 constituencies.

In stark contrast, an eerie silence prevails outside the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) office. The stage is set, but chairs remain empty as tension grips AAP workers. Party leaders Jasmine Shah and Anurag Dhandha admitted that this has been their toughest electoral battle, not just against two major political parties but also against what they termed as a “corrupt system.” Despite trailing in several seats, they expressed confidence in securing a comfortable victory.

AAP has dominated Delhi’s political landscape since 2013, initially winning 28 seats in its debut election. However, that government lasted just 49 days. In 2015, the party won a record 67 seats, followed by another landslide victory in 2020 with 62 seats. However, the current trends suggest a major setback for the ruling party.

Several heavyweight candidates are facing tough battles. Delhi Chief Minister Atishi is trailing in Kalkaji against BJP’s Ramesh Bidhuri. AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain are also behind in Jangpura and Shakur Basti, respectively. Meanwhile, BJP’s Kailash Gahlot and Gopal Rai are leading in Bijwasan and Karawal Nagar.

As of 10:30 a.m., the BJP is leading in 43 seats, while AAP trails with 27. The Congress remains unable to open its account. With results still being counted, all eyes are on the final tally, which could reshape Delhi’s political landscape after nearly a decade.
