Bhopal, 11th Dec. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday announced Ujjain South MLA Mohan Yadav as the new chief minister-elect. The 58-year-old leader was chosen as the leader of the BJP legislative party during a meeting at the BJP headquarters in Bhopal.

Narendra Singh Tomar, the union minister who resigned after being elected to the assembly, has been named as the new assembly speaker.

Jagdish Devda, the outgoing finance minister and two-time MLA from Mandsaur, and Rajendra Shukla, the outgoing public relation minister MLA from Rewa, have been elected as deputy chief ministers.

After being named as the chief minister-elect, Yadav expressed his gratitude to the state and central leadership and promised to fulfill his responsibilities with their support.

During the meeting, BJP observers, including Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar, BJP OBC Morcha president K Laxman, and national secretary Asha Lakra, discussed the names with the victorious MLA-elects.

Mohan Yadav, who is supported by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, previously served as the higher education minister in the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government.

Yadav’s appointment as the chief minister-elect comes 10 days after the BJP won 163 out of 230 seats in the Madhya Pradesh assembly election, defeating anti-incumbency.

This was the first time in 20 years that the BJP contested the election without a chief ministerial candidate.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held 14 rallies in the state during the campaign.

Once sworn in, Yadav will become the fifth chief minister from the BJP, following Sunderlal Patwa, Uma Bharti, Babulal Gaur, and Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Chouhan, who served as CM for over 16 years, is the longest-serving chief minister in the state’s history.
