New Delhi, 13th Jan. BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj on Monday termed the defamation complaint filed against her by AAP leader Satyendra Jain in a Delhi court as “politically motivated.”

During a hearing before Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Neha Mittal, Swaraj’s counsel argued that the alleged defamatory statements were based on publicly available facts and could not be classified as defamation. “The timing of the case is significant, as the complainant is contesting an election. The petition is politically motivated and filed to gain political advantage,” the counsel stated.

Opposing these claims, Jain’s lawyer described Swaraj’s statements as “contrary to the facts.”

Jain’s complaint alleges that Swaraj made defamatory remarks during an interview on a news channel on October 5, 2023, which was viewed by millions. According to Jain, Swaraj falsely accused him of possessing ₹3 crore in cash, 1.8 kilograms of gold, and 133 gold coins, recovered during a raid at his residence.

Jain claims that these statements were made to malign his reputation and gain undue political advantage by labeling him as “corrupt and fraud.”

The court has scheduled the next hearing for January 22, 2025.
