Kolkata, 5th April. In a scathing attack on the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in West Bengal, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Dilip Ghosh has accused the ruling party of repeatedly deceiving the public with false information regarding funds allocated by the central government.
Speaking to ANI, Ghosh asserted, “The WB government has repeatedly lied and given false figures (regarding funding given by the Centre to the state government) to mislead the people. Today, everything is in the public domain, including what the central government is doing, what it is giving, and how much the state government receives.”
Ghosh’s comments come in the wake of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent criticism of the TMC government, where he highlighted delays in project completion despite record amounts of central funds allocated to West Bengal.
“The TMC government here doesn’t allow the implementation of central schemes in West Bengal. Despite giving record amounts of money to West Bengal, many projects are not completed on time due to TMC,” PM Modi remarked during a public rally in Cooch Behar.
The BJP candidate from Bardhaman Durgapur constituency also addressed the Sandeshkhali incident, condemning the atrocities and emphasizing the need for justice. Ghosh slammed West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for her use of indecent language towards PM Modi, stating that such behavior has become habitual under her influence.
PM Modi, in his address, accused the TMC government of shielding the accused in the Sandeshkhali incidents and pledged to ensure punishment for the perpetrators. He further reiterated the BJP’s commitment to stopping atrocities against women and slammed opposition parties for protecting corrupt leaders.
This rally marks PM Modi’s first public appearance in West Bengal since the announcement of the general election schedule by the Election Commission of India. The BJP has intensified its criticism of the TMC over the Sandeshkhali incidents, which have stirred widespread outrage in the state.
The BJP’s focus on West Bengal underscores its determination to challenge the TMC’s dominance in the upcoming elections, with both parties gearing up for a fierce electoral battle in the state’s 42 parliamentary constituencies. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the TMC secured 22 seats, while the BJP emerged as a formidable opposition with 18 seats, signaling a significant shift in the state’s political landscape.
