BJP Leads in Early Trends, Delhi Unit Chief Calls It ‘Expected’ Victory

GG News Bureau
New Delhi, 8th Feb. With early trends showing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leading over the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva on Friday said the results were as per the party’s expectations.

“The results so far are in line with our expectations, but we will wait for the final outcome,” Sachdeva told reporters after offering prayers at Hanuman Temple in Connaught Place.

According to initial counting trends from the Election Commission, the BJP was leading in 32 assembly seats, while Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP was ahead in 14. “Our party workers have worked hard. This victory will be a testament to our top leadership. We contested the election based on Delhi’s core issues, but Arvind Kejriwal tried to shift focus,” he added.

When asked about the BJP’s chief ministerial candidate, Sachdeva stated that the party’s central leadership would decide on the matter.

The latest trends reported by television channels indicate the BJP has extended its lead to 46 seats—well above the majority mark of 36—while AAP is leading in 24 seats. The Congress, which governed Delhi from 1998 to 2013, is leading in just one seat.

If these trends hold, the AAP’s decade-long political dominance in Delhi could be significantly dented, marking a potential comeback for the BJP in the national capital after 26 years.
