New Delhi, 8th Nov. Several Bharatiya Janata Party leaders on Tuesday greeted L K Advani, widely regarded as the architect of the party’s rise to prominence as a major national force in the 1990s, on his birthday.
On Tuesday, Advani, the BJP’s longest-serving president, turned 95.
Advani, Home Minister Amit Shah said, strengthened the party’s organization across the country and made an invaluable contribution to the country’s development while serving in the government.
Shah wished him health and longevity.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari defined Advani as an inspiration.
Another Union minister, Rajnath Singh, said Advani has made significant contributions to the country, society, and the party and is regarded as one of the country’s most prominent figures.
Advani, who was born in Karachi, Pakistan, in 1927, joined the RSS at a young age and later worked for the Jana Sangh, where he made a name for himself with his organizational skills.
He was a founding member of the Bharatiya Janata Party in 1980 and served as its face for several decades, alongside former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Advani’s ‘Rath Yatra’ in support of building the Ram temple in Ayodhya at a site believed to be Lord Ram’s birthplace in 1990 is seen as an epochal turn in national politics, marking the party’s unstoppable rise to power.
While Vajpayee, the party’s popular face who enjoyed acceptance beyond its core supporters, became Prime Minister, Advani served as Home Minister. Later, he was appointed deputy prime minister.
