New Delhi, 11th May. The unfolding scenario surrounding the allegations of sexual abuse involving JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna has taken a new twist as BJP leader G Devaraje Gowda, who initially brought the accusations to light, finds himself embroiled in a sexual assault case. Late Friday, Gowda was taken into custody while traveling from Bengaluru to Chitradurga, according to police sources.
The arrest stems from a complaint filed by a 36-year-old woman, accusing Gowda of molesting her under the guise of assisting with property sales. Gowda, a contestant in the 2023 Karnataka assembly elections against Prajwal’s father, HD Revanna, is also alleged to have leaked videos purportedly showing Prajwal Revanna engaging in sexual misconduct with multiple women. Gowda, however, has deflected blame onto the Congress party for the video leaks.
Last year, Gowda had alerted BJP leadership about Prajwal Revanna’s alleged misconduct, urging the party not to nominate him for the Lok Sabha elections from Hassan. Despite this, the BJP, in alliance with JD(S), decided to field Prajwal in the polls.
The scandal erupted shortly after the Lok Sabha polls in the Hassan constituency on April 26, with videos circulating online purportedly depicting sexual assaults. Prajwal Revanna, grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda and a key JD(S) figure, left for Germany on the same day the videos surfaced and was subsequently suspended by the party. A blue corner notice has been issued against him by Interpol, and he faces multiple FIRs, including charges of rape, molestation, intimidation, blackmail, and threats.
Meanwhile, HD Revanna, Prajwal’s father, is currently incarcerated on allegations of kidnapping a woman with three children, further deepening the political and legal complexities surrounding the Revanna family.
