New Delhi: Senior BJP leader Dr. Vijay Jolly has revealed that his organization, Delhi Study Group, has fallen victim to a cyber fraud involving fake room bookings in Ayodhya ahead of a religious pilgrimage.
According to Dr. Jolly, preparations were underway for a large group of devotees from Delhi to visit the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya on April 23, 2025. This annual pilgrimage, led by Dr. Jolly, has seen hundreds of Ram bhakts participate in the past, including special rituals conducted in 2023 and 2024.
This year’s visit included planned accommodation at the well-known Shri Janaki Mahal Trust Dharamshala located on Parikrama Road, Ayodhya. However, cybercriminals reportedly created a fake website impersonating the Dharamshala and extorted thousands of rupees under the guise of room booking. The payment was made to a person named Kundan Kumar via IDBI Bank account number 1022104000181464, using mobile number 84878-46269.
The scam came to light when Dr. Jolly discovered the fraud and immediately lodged a written complaint at Saket Police Station’s Cyber Cell in South Delhi. The complaint was registered under Diary No. 221 on April 7, 2025. Police investigations are currently underway.
Dr. Jolly expressed deep sorrow and disappointment over the incident, stating that the misuse of religious sentiments and faith for fraud is both distressing and unfortunate.
