Lucknow, 5th April. The Bharatiya Janata Party expelled its legislative council member Yashwant Singh from the party on Monday for six years on charges of anti-party activities.
BJP’s media incharge Manish Dixit said that Yashwant Singh was informed about his expulsion via a letter sent to him by the Bharatiya Janata Party’s state general secretary and party headquarters in-charge Govind Narayan Shukla.
In his letter to Yashwant Singh, Bharatiya Janata Party’s state general secretary Govind Narayan Shukla stated that there had been complaints that he has fielded his son Vikrant Singh from the Azamgarh-Mau local body authority seat of the UP Vidhan Parishad against the Bharatiya Janata Party’s official candidate and is also campaigning for him.
BJP’s media incharge Manish Dixit further said, “on the basis of regular reports from regional leaders, the BJP state unit president Swatantra Dev Singh expelled Yashwant Singh with immediate effect for six years for doing anti-party activities.”
The biennial poll for the legislative council’s 36 of the 37 vacant seats is scheduled later this month.
Yashwant Singh, who was a Samajwadi Party (SP) MLC in 2017, had quit his seat for UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath after he was sworn in after the 2017 assembly polls but was not a member of either House.
Yashwant Singh had quit his seat to facilitate Yogi’s election from his seat. He was later sent to the legislative council by the Bharatiya Janata Party.
The Bharatiya Janata Party has made Arun Yadav its official candidate from Azamgarh-Mau local body seat of the Uttar Pradesh Vidhan Parishad.
