BJP Expected To Weaken Trinamool’s Hold In South Bengal: Exit Polls

GG News Bureau

West Bengal, 2nd June. The Trinamool Congress is expected to suffer a significant defeat in the West Bengal Lok Sabha elections, according to the India Today-Axis My India exit poll.

The exit poll predicted that the TMC lead by Mamata Banerjee would win between 11 and 14 seats, while the BJP would probably win between 26 and 31 of the 42 available seats. Most likely, the INDIA bloc led by the Congress would receive just two seats.

According to the exit poll, the state’s BJP vote share would rise to 46%, while the Trinamool Congress, which is now in power, would receive 40% of the vote. Exit surveys predict that the INDIA group will receive 12% of the vote, while the other parties will receive 2%.

The BJP’s increasing vote share indicates that the saffron party might be able to break through the TMC’s stronghold in South Bengal, where the party won in 2019, if the exit poll results are to be trusted. Notably, on June 1, voters in the region’s last round of voting were asked to cast ballots for all nine seats.

Leading members of the Bengal BJP declared that they anticipate the party gaining approximately 29 seats in the state. They state that they anticipate winning at least three of the 9 seats that were up for election on June 1. Barasat, North Kolkata, and Mathurapur are these seats.

Notably, the TMC prevailed from Barasat and North Kolkata in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections by a margin of almost 1.1 lakh votes. In a same vein, the party secured the seat of Mathurapur with a margin of two lakh votes.

The BJP had fielded Rekha Patra, a survivor of the Sandeshkhali violence, in the Basirhat constituency, but the India Today-Axis My India exit poll indicated that Patra would lose. Haji Nurul Islam of Trinamool would probably defeat Patra, based on the exit poll.

One of the seven assembly segments under the Basirhat Lok Sabha seat, Sandeshkhali, has drawn attention recently because of accusations of land grabs and sexual assault. Protests spearheaded by women thrust the constituency into the national spotlight. The Sandeshkhali segment might provide the BJP an advantage, but it would probably lose the other six segments.

With a lead of more than three lakh votes, the TMC became victorious in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Basirhat.

BJP leaders, however, believe that the Sandeshkhali controversy could affect the surrounding seats, particularly North Kolkata and Barasat. This time, there was a lot of campaigning in the state by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. Amit Shah conducted 16 rallies in the state, compared to roughly 22 rallies by PM Modi.
