BJP Dominates Mizoram’s Chakma Council Polls, Congress Wiped Out

Lawngtlai- The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) swept the local elections for the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC), winning 64 out of 88 village council seats in a decisive mandate. The Mizoram State Election Commission reported a high voter turnout of 74.19%, with polling conducted across all village councils within the CADC in Lawngtlai district. Counting of votes commenced immediately after polling concluded on Wednesday.

Of the 88 seats, 12 were declared uncontested. The BJP claimed nine of these, while the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM) secured the remaining three. The Indian National Congress (INC) faced a significant setback, failing to win a single seat — marking its first major loss in the Chakma local body elections.

In addition to the BJP’s dominant performance, the ZPM managed to win 12 seats, while the Mizo National Front (MNF) secured eight. This result reflects a dramatic shift from the 2020 local elections, where the MNF held 64 seats, and the BJP had won only 16.
